VPN won't connect

Most connection failures come down to one of five things. Work through these in order — the first three fix the vast majority of cases.

1. Toggle it properly

Turn the VPN off in the app, wait five seconds, and turn it back on. If the switch snaps back off instantly, keep reading — that's usually a profile issue.

2. Check the VPN profile

iOS requires a one-time permission to add Mistero's VPN configuration. If it was declined or removed:

  1. Open Settings → General → VPN & Device Management → VPN.
  2. If Mistero isn't listed, open the app and connect once — iOS will ask to Allow the configuration. Accept it.
  3. If it is listed but stuck, remove it there, then reconnect from the app to reinstall it cleanly.

3. Change networks

Switch from Wi-Fi to cellular (or the other way) and try again. If it connects on one and not the other, the failing network is blocking VPN traffic — common on office, school and hotel Wi-Fi with strict firewalls. Hotel captive portals need you to complete their login page before the VPN can connect.

4. Pick a different server

A single location can have a bad moment. Let smart-select choose, or manually pick a nearby country and retry.

5. The clean sweep

  1. Restart your iPhone.
  2. Delete the app, reinstall from the App Store, sign back in and re-allow the VPN profile.

Still stuck after all five? Email [email protected] with your iOS version and what network you're on — that's usually enough for us to pinpoint it. You can verify a successful connection anytime with What is my IP.
